Karl Barth joined Drexel University in 2002 as their first E-mail Postmaster. Prior to Drexel, he worked as a programmer for several years before landing at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he first became exposed to the technical side of e-mail. During his eight years at DEC, Karl used his expertise to help major chemical, aircraft, and banking companies with their planning and deployments. When he left DEC, he worked as a consultant. He moved to the Philadelphia area to work with fellow e-mail experts in a small consultancy. His clients included universities, non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies. The dot-com bust of the early 2000s encouraged Karl to take the opportunity to do something he'd always wanted to do – be on staff at a major university. Today Karl remains very active in anti-spam groups and does presentations on campus to help students and staff understand e-mail issues. Karl graduated from Cornell University in the 1970s with a degree in Math and Computer Science.
